La cantante estadounidense Taylor Swift salió en defensa de sus colegas de la industria musical y pidió, de la forma más educada posible, que Apple pague de su bolsillo a los cantantes, autores y compositores por el periodo de tres meses de prueba gratuita del recientemente anunciado servicio de streaming Apple Music.

Mediante una carta abierta a Apple publicada en su cuenta de Tumblr , Taylor Swift detalló que si bien ella y sus colegas admiran a la empresa de la manzana, no están de acuerdo con esta decisión en particular.

A continuación reproducimos la carta traducida de Taylor Swift en la que explica también por qué su nuevo álbum 1989 no estará en Apple Music :

Escribo esto para explicar por qué no estará mi álbum, 1989, en el nuevo servicio de streaming, Apple Music. Creo que esto merece una explicación, ya que Apple ha sido y seguirá siendo uno de mis mejores socios en la venta de música y crear formas para mí para conectar con mis fans. Yo respeto a la empresa y las mentes verdaderamente ingeniosas que han creado un legado basado en la innovación y empujando los límites adecuados”.

Estoy segura de que son conscientes de que Apple Music estará ofreciendo una prueba gratuita de 3 meses a cualquier persona que se inscriba en el servicio. No estoy segura de que saben que Apple Music no pagará a los escritores, productores, o artistas por esos tres meses. Me parece que es sorprendente, decepcionante, y completamente diferente a lo que esta empresa históricamente progresista y generosa hace.

No se trata de mí. Afortunadamente estoy en mi quinto álbum y puedo mantenerme a mí misma, mi banda, equipo y demás personal tocando en vivo. Se trata del nuevo artista o banda que acaba de lanzar su primer single y no será pagado por su éxito. Se trata del joven compositor que acaba de conseguir su primera grabación y pensó que las regalías lo sacaría deudas. Esto es sobre el productor que trabaja incansablemente para innovar y crear, al igual que los innovadores y creadores de Apple son pioneros en su campo… pero no se les pagará durante una cuarta parte del año por la ejecución de sus canciones.

Estas no son las quejas de una niña malcriada y petulante. Estos son los sentimientos reflejados de cada artista, escritor y productor en mis círculos sociales que tienen miedo a hablar en público porque admiramos y respetamos mucho a Apple. Nosotros simplementa no respetamos esta decisión en particular.

Me doy cuenta de que Apple está trabajando hacia el objetivo de tener un streaming pagado. Creo que es un hermoso progreso. Sabemos cómo ha sido el astronómo éxito de Apple y sabemos que esta empresa increíble tiene el dinero para pagar a los artistas, escritores y productores durante un periodo de 3 meses… incluso si es libre para los aficionados que lo prueban.

Tres meses es mucho tiempo para estar impagos y es injusto pedir a alguien trabajar por nada. Lo digo con amor, reverencia y admiración por todo lo que Apple ha hecho. Espero que pronto pueda unirme en el camino hacia un modelo de streaming que sea justo para aquellos que crean esta música. Creo que esto podría ser la plataforma que lo haga bien.

I write this to explain why I’ll be holding back my album, 1989, from the new streaming service, Apple Music. I feel this deserves an explanation because Apple has been and will continue to be one of my best partners in selling music and creating ways for me to connect with my fans. I respect the company and the truly ingenious minds that have created a legacy based on innovation and pushing the right boundaries.

I’m sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service. I’m not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company.

This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can support myself, my band, crew, and entire management team by playing live shows. This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt. This is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create, just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field…but will not get paid for a quarter of a year’s worth of plays on his or her songs.

These are not the complaints of a spoiled, petulant child. These are the echoed sentiments of every artist, writer and producer in my social circles who are afraid to speak up publicly because we admire and respect Apple so much. We simply do not respect this particular call.

I realize that Apple is working towards a goal of paid streaming. I think that is beautiful progress. We know how astronomically successful Apple has been and we know that this incredible company has the money to pay artists, writers and producers for the 3 month trial period… even if it is free for the fans trying it out.

Three months is a long time to go unpaid, and it is unfair to ask anyone to work for nothing. I say this with love, reverence, and admiration for everything else Apple has done. I hope that soon I can join them in the progression towards a streaming model that seems fair to those who create this music. I think this could be the platform that gets it right.

But I say to Apple with all due respect, it’s not too late to change this policy and change the minds of those in the music industry who will be deeply and gravely affected by this. We don’t ask you for free iPhones. Please don’t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation.
